What’s in your makeup bag?

This might sound like a crazy question for your hairdresser to ask you!

I promise I’m not going crazy, it’s actually a really relevant question for me to ask my clients. Everyone has an amount of money that they feel is acceptable to spend on their products, by asking my clients this question I can get a really good idea what their maximum is.

How frustrating would it be to love the product that your stylist is using, only to find its way out of your budget, then when your stylist says well we have a cheaper brand, you are going to feel cheap! That’s not a nice experience for anyone!! This way, as your stylist, I can understand and recommend you the best product for your budget without ever making you feel like you’re not getting the best, even though you are getting the best you can afford.

This also works the other way round, I have clients who’s makeup bag is worth THOUSANDS!! But, they buy their haircare at the supermarket!! When I ask them how much their make up bag is worth and they calculate it , usually they are shocked that their appearance routine can be so out of balance.

So why are some products so much more expensive? If you’ve ever used a high quality shampoo and conditioner you know the difference, your hair feels stronger and more nourished, it grows well and handles styling easily. But, there are cheaper brands who stand up well against these big boys! How do they make their products cheaper? Usually the concentration of active ingredients is less, usually with more carrier products or a higher percentage of water then the more expensive shampoos.

Now I’m not suggesting that you should take out a second mortgage to keep up with your product purchases but do buy the best you can afford and remember that all salon products last longer then supermarket brands, have better ingredients and will be kinder to your hair. Following your stylists advice is always the best thing to do, if you don’t like anything that we recommend bring it back and we will swap it for you, no problems.

P.S. if you are a salon owner or stylist use this as a team meeting, it’s a great eye opener for stylists who struggle to talk about product recommendations. Xx
